Communicating effectively with your network
The same message doesn't land the same way depending on the channel used. Choosing it is never a detail.
The right channel for the right message
A quick message has no place in a long email, and a detailed proposal deserves better than a text. Before writing, ask yourself which channel the person actually prefers, rather than the one that's convenient for you.
A follow-up isn't a bother
Many people give up on following up out of fear of being pushy. A short, low-pressure follow-up is almost always well received: it shows interest, not impatience.
Write to be read, not to be polite
Overly long pleasantries dilute the message. Get to the point in the first two lines: that's often all that gets read on a phone.
